Jeff,
You must have been in a Coca Coma during the trek, because I didn’t hear you say 10 words the whole time. Seriously, you did a great job of capturing the spirit of this memorable adventure. Here it is 28 days after the “death bug” attack and I have finally quit scratching.
Kudos to you for helping preserve this wonderful experience!

but also don’t forget to add the fond memories of the ‘tourist train’ back from Machu Picchu to Ollantaytambo (complete with train staff donning costumes for fashion show, and the weird peruvian dancing llama puppet pushing grinning mask guy), and then the ’short cut’ the bus driver decided to use back to Cuzco which involved swerving past huge avalanche remains every 100m in the dark, stopping for no reason but to scare us that we’d all be kidnapped, singing small child conductor, and then arriving back 5 minutes after the other bus anyway!

Hey, you forgot that on the bus ride way up the winding road a.k.a incredibly steep cliff face, the driver was going round corners practically on two wheels… and that we then realised that’s coz he only had one arm, and hence couldn’t manage to turn wheel and change gear to slow down at same time. Awesome! And an measure of discomfort over the travel company’s claims of safety consciousness was installed in us all.

And thankfully we don’t need to worry much longer about that one exception that proves Mr. Darwin’s rule — Tuesday night gave us the best of the species. Yeff, Yex and Jeff, I guess you’re saying you don’t want to spend Christmas in blustery Alaska where we can freeze while worshipping at the shrine of Sarah Palin? Great, now to undo all those reservations.

Just for the record, if I were you, I might add a comma in between “wife” and “from Buenos Aires to the bottom tip of the continent” just so everybody knows Matt is still married to me and hasn’t found some porteña with whom to tie the knot. Or you could leave it and see if he gets a flood of congratulatory emails on his Buenos Aires babe. Actually, I should be quiet – Matt is the editor after all.
